Ever since Disney announced that they would be launching their own streaming service, rumors have been swirling about whether or not they will buy Sony’s movie studio. It all started when it was reported that Disney had approached Sony with a potential acquisition offer in 2019. This is no surprise, considering the fact that Netflix has been dominating the streaming game and Disney wants to get into it as soon as possible. Still, some analysts are skeptical and believe this deal won’t happen anytime soon because of how much money each company stands to lose if the merger were to go through.
Who is richer Sony or Disney?
Disney vs. Sony: Who is Richer?
Sony’s business model has been to develop a diverse line of entertainment products and sell them in all sorts of ways. They have their own TV network, record label, movie studio, video game division, and more – giving it an edge over Disney which focuses primarily on its theme parks around the world as well as films like Star Wars that are shown through 20th Century Fox. But they’re not competing for many markets at the same time; whereas Sony is competing with Netflix but also owns its own streaming service called Crackle (which isn’t very popular). All this means is that if Disney were interested in acquiring Sony Entertainment Co., then there would likely be some negotiating required before any deal happens in the future.
Disney would not want to buy Sony if it meant they had to compete in the streaming market against Netflix. Nor would Disney be interested in acquiring Sony’s TV division, as that is a major source of revenue for them (especially with their networks ABC and ESPN). That leaves film production, Hollywood studios, video games, and finance – all areas where Disney can’t really offer much on its own right now. So while both companies have talked about working together before, this time around there may be more definitive discussions happening behind closed doors.
How much Disney Worth?
Disney’s market cap exceeds $150 billion. ABC and Disney can all areas where – and finance video games, studios production, Hollywood leaves film).
